The Holidays… A Very Busy Time of Year. Here’s Our Checklist:
No doubt about it, the holidays are a busy time of year for anyone, especially those of us who love action sports. Mountain bikers in the west have some of the year’s best riding conditions. Skiers are thinking about shredding powder, and big north swells are arriving for surfers to rip.
But the holidays are also time to take stock of our good fortunes. That we’re able to surf, ski, run, hike, climb, ride, or whatever it is that brings us joy. For all too many, these simple pleasures just aren’t possible. With that in mind, the first item on Bikeskills’ checklist is not just to think about others, but to act in their behalf. One group of people that could use our help are those suffering from traumactic brain injuries. To read more about them and how you can help, go to our “Going The Distance Project” page under “Pages” to the right on this web page. Now here are some other things to put on your action sports related holiday check list:
- Get out there on your bike, board, skis, etc! Don’t let the rush of the holidays keep you from doing what will keep you healthy mentally and physically for a lifetime… especially during the holidays.
- Take better care of the stuff you already have! This year, think about the gear you already have. Clean it up, tune it up, fix it. You might already have everything you really need.
- Learn and get more out of that gear you already have. This goes well beyond taking a Bikeskills, Skiskills, or Surfskills clinic; it’s applicable to just about everything in life.
- Help someone become more involved in an activity that can quite literally, save their lives. But remember, if they don’t like: getting dirty on a bike, the big fish associated with surfing, or dealing with skiing’s cold, help them find something that resonates with them, that they love. Remember, it’s them you’re helping.
Need a reminder on how to keep a positive mental attitude during the insanity and demands of the holiday season? Do what we do here at Bikeskills: go for a ride with Jon “Sick Air” Sigerman. Can’t do that? No problem, here’s a little gift from Jon and Bikeskills (If you’ve seen it before, it’s worth seeing again…)
